The Story Behind the Painting: The first time I visited the French Quarter in Louisiana, I was mesmerized by the architecture. This is one of the most famous spots, Pirates Alley. At the end of this alley is one of the oldest running bars in the country, known for selling the highest quality milky green Absinthe to its patrons. If you have been there you will know there is a church on the left side.
On this particular day the light at the end of the alley was so bright it bleached the colors out of the distant buildings. I liked the effect that this made, along with the shadows down the wall. Another detail that caught my attention was the water that remained in cracks on the brick street after a recent morning shower. I took many photographs on this day, but this was one of my favorites.
